The Sunny Era to launch 2013 live music season here at Hymie’s this afternoon!

The start of 2013 is going to set a big precedent because Laura has scheduled some pretty awesome live music here in the record shop in the next several weeks. Before the end of January we’ll have hosted three bands from our “top 10″ lists of 2012 (The White Whales, Panther Ray, Story of the Sea) as well as Sex Sounds and Braver together on one day. You can click on “performances and events” up above for a complete schedule, which will also include February’s in-store performances.

And the 2013 music season here at Hymie’s will get off to a fitting start with the Sunny Era, who are making their first visit to the shop for a performance at 3pm this afternoon to promote their new LP, Lost in the Sea of Ghosts.

This track comes from their second LP, Gone Missing, which we kind of re-discovered after the release of the new one last month. The three-piece band has moved a little further into a more conventional rock sound with each release, but remained grounded in Old World folk and Gypsy dance roots. It’s been an interesting evolution towards the more-driven pop sound featured on Lost in the Sea of Ghosts. I personally found the past two albums to be the perfect soundtrack to my work yesterday as I was building a new record browser for the shop in the loading dock.

Their release show at the Cedar Cultural Center last month was an impressive performance, so this afternoon should be a lot of fun!
