Laura and I have been so busy with the several monster collections of great LPs that have come into the shop lately* that we forgot to write about this last week – Tonight is the second installment of Papa John’s Acoustic Blues series at Merlin’s Rest. This month features the duo of singer Doug Otto˜ and guitar picker Albert Perez. They draw their material from a delta blues catalog that is sadly overlooked these days, so their set at Merlin’s promises to be a treat for serious blues listeners.
You can bet that we’ll be flipping a coin to see who has to stay home with our little monsters and who gets to walk over to Merlin’s to hear these guys dig into some old time classics. Papa John will be there to host, as with the last Monday night of every month.
*And seriously, so many great LPs have turned up lately – Mountains of metal classics (One guy bought three original Slayer albums today), classic rock standards and weird jazz albums – Its really the best big wave of cool stuff we’ve had in months. You readers in town really ought to stop in, especially the ones who like to rock out.
