We’re a little late to put up today’s post – has anyone read the news from Punxsutawney? We’re all pretty used to the cold by now, so there’s no point in complaining if we’re looking at six more weeks of winter. Around here the thing we’re most worried about is April 20th, which is Record Store Day and has been a pretty lousy day these past couple years when we’ve hosted a block party on 39th Avenue outside the shop.
So we didn’t check the news today and spent the morning on a little early spring cleaning instead. We found about half the things we were looking for and a whole bunch of stuff we didn’t even know was lost. And here at the end of the afternoon we remembered this song from the new Charlie Parr album, Barnswallow.
“Groundhog Day Blues” by Charlie Parr
Charlie’s celebrating the release with a two-night stand at the Cedar. We were there last night spinning some blues and old time records between the sets, and we’ll be back again tonight. The Murder of Crows will play an opening set, and Winona artist Jamie Harper, who painted the cover for Barnswallow, will too. He’s got a bunch of stunning stuff set up there by the stage.
Next time we’ll try and be more organized and give you a little more notice.
