This new album is a huge hit in our house – we listened to it twice in a row as soon as we brought it home! Mike Park, who people my age will remember as the Skankin’ Pickle guy, has written a fun new album for kids called Smile. It’s a dozen songs about awesome things like frogs, red lights and green lights, and the ocean.
He’s backed by a band from San Jose called the Hard Girls who aren’t girls at all but goofy old pop punk guys. They totally deliver on Smile, putting Park’s silly songs to fun, bouncy beats and catchy hooks. It’s not as half-assed and shoddy as some recent punk rock kids records, like the pandering “Ramones for kids” disc, and old grumps like me will like this album as much as your kids will!
Smile even comes with animal drawings to color – here at Hymie’s were going to give you a couple crayons with it, too!
