Another favorite 45 label and a top 10 list

Its been a while since we’ve offered a favorite 45 label. Here’s a record by Ronnie McDowell on the Scorpion label. Its got a great, classic and clean look to it, but the best feature is the scorpion itself. For this one, we’ve also included the song itself.

McDowell does a fine Elvis, and inspired this short list:

10 – Ronnie McDowell’s fine impersonation

9 – Johnny Bye Bye by Bruce Springsteen

8 – pretty much everything on My Farewell to Elvis by Merle Haggard

7 – House of Cards by Steven Forbert

6 – Happy Birthday Elvis by Loudon Wainwright III

5 – Boy From Tupelo by Emmylou Harris

4 – Elvis Has Just Left the Building by Frank Zappa (We actually prefer the Zappa’s Universe recording of this number)

3 – Went to See the Gypsy by Bob Dylan (Really about Elvis? Not sure. Tracks from New Morning keep turning up on our blog)

2- Elvis Presley Blues by Gillian Welch

and number one, certainly the finest tribute to Elvis Presley:

Elvis is Everywhere by Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper

Would you like to hear this fine recording? Its in the jukebox at Hymie’s Vintage Records.
